"Super Mario Advance" for the Game Boy Advance is a reimagined version of the classic platformer Super Mario Bros. 2, originally released for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) in 1988. Developed and published by Nintendo, Super Mario Advance comes with updated graphics, enhanced gameplay features, and additional content. Accompanying Super Mario Bros. 2 is also a remake of the original Mario Bros. arcade/NES title.

The core platforming gameplay is the same as before, including level designs and enemies. Players can select from Mario, Luigi, Toad, or Princess Peach, each with their own unique abilities affecting gameplay. While Mario offers a balanced experience, Luigi boasts higher jumps, Peach can cover more distance, and Toad is the nimblest. These character traits, which would become familiar in modern Mario games, originated here. Life is measured in hearts, and in this verison there's plenty of hearts inside each level. There's also so many 1-ups and checkpoints that this title should be no problem to finish.

The visuals are updated with vibrant colors and improved character sprites, as well as enhanced sound and music quality. Each of the levels has detailed parallax-scrolling backgrounds. Each of the main characters now also have different sayings for things like 1-ups, hearts, mushrooms, level completion, getting hit by an enemy, etc. The're also a new boss, Robirdo, which is a robotic version of the character Birdo. Additionally, new features such as a save system, multiplayer support, and bonus content like 5 red coins per stage to find and Yoshi Challenge mode, with Yoshi eggs hidden throughout the levels.

Accompanying Super Mario Bros. 2 is a remake of the original Mario Bros. arcade/NES title. This straightforward game tasks Mario and Luigi with eliminating enemies in a vertical stage by knocking them onto their backs and then colliding with them.

Overall, Super Mario Advance for the GBA offers a nostalgic and entertaining adventure for fans of the Mario series, combining a classic platforming game enhancements and additional content.
