The game is much shorter if you use the warps. You only go through eight stages, and only two of those partially. It kind of feels cheap to skip so many levels, but you have to remember that back in the day this was the closest thing to a stage select that players had. This was the best way to get back to the levels they left off on if they had to quite the game for some reason.

My intention was to complete the full game with no deaths. In order to do some practice and warm up to that, I decided to do some runs where I used the Warps to skip levels. Then I got the idea to include warp playthroughs alongside the full playthroughs. Eight levels without deaths is way more manageable than the full game. You still have to go through all of World 8, so if you have problems with that, then it won't help much.
