This galaxy is one I am not a huge fan of, and it is the desert world of this game, it is Dusty Dune Galaxy. This galaxy has some special mechanics, like the tornadoes which can be used to avoid the quicksand, and a bunch of structures in the desert, Dusty Dune Galaxy is full of tricks and secrets.

As for the rest of the description, I recommend watching the full video before reading past this point of the description

To unlock Dusty Dune Galaxy, you will need 29 Power Stars, and I am not a fan of this galaxy, I prefer Slipsand Galaxy in Super Mario Galaxy 2, because one of my favourite bosses in Galaxy 2 is fought there.
The first mission is Soaring on the Desert Winds, there are tornadoes you can use to to spin in the air like a propeller, so this mechanic pre-dated the Propeller Suit from New Super Mario Bros. Wii. Then it is time for some 2D platforming, the first Thwomp takes you to a secret area where you can get a 1-Up and a Life Shroom, but watch out for the three Thwomps. There are two Flipswitches under one Thwomp, and you can get Star Bits on the large wheels that are affected by gravity. Then you can use a Fire Flower to defeat the Piranha Plants on the slope, then a large boulder follows up in the style of Indiana Jones, and we take the Sling Star to a Warp Pipe.
Next is a large stone structure that makes use of tornadoes to go higher, and the enemies are called Cluckbooms, they drop bombs down, and you can spin into them or use Star Bits to knock them onto the ground, and spin into them to defeat them. Not only do we have tornadoes, but there are blocks you have to jump up, and Wall Jump the glass area, and at the very top is a Power Star inside a crystal.
Next is Blasting through the Sand, at the beginning, defeat five Pokey Heads, and a large Pokey will show up, defeat it to take the Launch Star. There is a hidden Rainbow Star on the next planet to destroy the boulders, and there is a Hungry Luma on that planet as well. Next planet is a large ring of flowing sand, and there are five Blue Star Chips to collect, one of them is inside a chest that requires a Koopa Shell. There are two paths, the left takes you to a Warp Pipe where you can get three 1-Up Mushrooms, and the right takes you to the Launch Star, and you can get some Star Bits. The next planet are a bunch of stone platforms, and there are a bunch of Tweesters, which are smaller tornadoes, and they have debris which can hurt Mario if he makes contact with it. What you have to do is Ground Pound the switch, and go to the other side of the planet and grab the Power Star. There is a Speedy Comet for this mission, and Sandblast Speed Run is the same mission, except you have 4 minutes to complete it.
Sunbaked Sand Castle is next, and Ground Pound the switch to rise the platform higher, the next planet requires collecting Star Chips on the structure, and you will need a Koopa Shell for the chest, and there are a lot of Dry Bones on this planet. Next you have to destroy the spiky plant with a coconut, and on the next two planets, there are coconuts on the lower planet, and you will need them to defeat the Big Pokey. Then the next planet is a large glass structure, enter the Warp Pipe and break some crates along the way, and the structure begins sinking into the sand, so make your way up to the Power Star quickly.
This galaxy has two secret stars, the first one is Treasure in the Pyramind, pick Star 2 for this one, and you have to give the Hungry Luma 20 Star Bits, which shouldn't be too hard, and you enter a pyramid, and if you step on the green line, the sand will start to rise, and there are 5 Silver Stars to collect, and when the sand begins moving, it will reveal paths, and collecting all the Silver Stars will give you a Green Star, and this is the third one, so you can access the Trial Galaxies, which I will hold off on until very later in the game.
The other one is Bullet Bill on Your Back, go into mission 3, and on the Sand Tide Planet, Ground Pound the stump and collect all the notes and take the Launch Star to the next planet. This is a very tricky mission, because you have to make use of Bullet Bills to destroy the cage with the Power Star, but you can use the Rainbow Star to defeat all the Dry Bones so they don't get in the way. This can take a while, because when the platform is at its highest, you have to jump on a switch and try to lure in a Bullet Bill, but you can lower the platform if you want to, but you have to have it higher to destroy the cages.
