Super Mario RPG Armageddon is a hack for Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars by darkkefka. Much higher difficulty, rebalanced characters, new spells & equipment, and even new content are just a few of things this hack does.

Since the latest version's patch comes with a rom you must apply said patch to, a link can't be provided. Go and fire up the Google engines to locate it.

Right off the bat, you'll see me at Toad's "Lulzs this be a hack" conversation. You'd be wise to take the first option to be given a demonstration of some things. Most of it has already been explained, but the real reward is the 10 exp, 100 coins, and Electric Bomb. Said item hits all enemies with a thunder elemental attack.

After having to do the first area again (And luckily get it to where I had the exact same exp as I left off at from the end of the last video), it's time to visit the Mushroom Kingdom. Might as well go check in with the chancellor first and foremost after having fun in an invisible platform world. There was a hidden chest in vanilla where I jumped up to thanks to Toad here, but I believe that was removed. There are new hidden chests to be found, but we'll cross that bridge when we get there.

Anyways, at the chancellor, Mario manages to act out how all the events at Bowser's Keep went down. Afterwards, the chancellor hands a map to Mario and tells him to visit the vault guard in the castle for some assistance.

The vault guard is past the southeast exit in the first room of the palace (where Toad greeted you). Speak to him and he leads you downstairs to claim three items, a refreshing mushroom, a large coin worth 10 coins, and a flower which raises your max fp by 1.

As much as this journey Mario is going on is needed, he has no leads on where to go exactly. Upon exiting the palace, the answer is provided when a slick looking crocodile critter seems to have taken something from a large marshmallow like creature. Said creature eventually fails to catch the thief which leads to him breaking down in tears...and apparently causes it to rain in the kingdom.

Well, wonder what his story is? Simple enough. This puffball, the aptly named Mallow, was in town to pick up some things for his grandpa, and the thieving croc swiped his cash and ran. Mario, with no other options, decides to help this puffball in his quest.

That means a new party member to help with fighting!

If Mario was like a jack of all trades, able to do physical or magical based attacks equally well (at this point!), Mallow's strength is going to lie in his magical aptitude. He certainly can't take hits as well as Mario, though that's mostly due to starting at level 1.

Mallow's starting skill is Shocker, a single target thunder based attack that hits as hard, if not harder, than Mario's new fangled Hammer. More so if you hit your Y button right before the thunderbolt appears. The catch? It costs a fairly hefty 4 fp.

One thing not mentioned about fp is that it's a pool that all characters draw from. That means you really need to think about your skill uses in a battle so you don't run out at a bad time. Ideally, it's best to save all of the fp for Mallow to burn on Shockers so his damage output doesn't go cold turkey. Mario can manage just fine with his Hammer.

Exploring around the town a bit, you'll find someone in the basement of the item shop. There are two hidden chests here. One the guy down here basically gives to you while the other is in the corner of the room right after you go down the stairs, but you need him close by to hop on his head to reach the chest.

Both chests contain a Frog Coin, a currency which will be useful down the road.

For now, talking to the guy that sells items is a good idea. For one, he hands over a Crystalline, an item that buffs the defense & magic defense of all allies in battle.

He also sells lots of useful treats like Mushrooms (Which you could get from farming the Mushroom Way enemies if you wanted to), Life Shrooms (Revival item), and Maple Syrup1s (30 fp recovery). Also make sure to pick up the armor upgrades for both characters.

Outside, talk to the toad man next to the item shop and you'll see the croc thief run by. You'll have to follow him to Bandit's Way, but first...remember Chester, the evil chest that Meteor'd poor Mario last time?

Apparently that was due to being hit one too many times. If you off all of his little goomba sidekicks first, he runs, leaving behind some decent rewards, namely that Flower Tab (Useable item, raises max fp by 1). You can also open the chest said Chester was guarding for a flower to boost fp some more.

Might do a bit of off screen grinding to level up Mallow a bit. Not sure yet.
