Super Mario RPG Armageddon #8 - Tadpole Pond
2Super Mario RPG Armageddon is a hack for Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars by darkkefka. Much higher difficulty, rebalanced characters, new spells & equipment, and even new content are just a few of things this hack does.
Since the latest version's patch comes with a rom you must apply said patch to, a link can't be provided. Go and fire up the Google engines to locate it.
Nothing but cutscenes here. Mario & Mallow meet up with Mallow's grandpa, Frogfucius. He breaks the fourth wall and mentions that, yes, this hack is difficult (It is so far!), you will get many game overs (Three so far for me!), and other useful facts about the hack.
The most significant fact is that the max level in this game has been raised to 60 and that defense bonuses cannot be acquired until 41.
In any case, Frogfucius manages to turn this fourth wall conversation back into the story for the game somehow. Namely, Mallow isn't a tadpole. His real mother & father are still out there somewhere and dammit, the puffball is going to find them!
Frogfucius then suggest heading to Rose Town where they need help. This can be done by going through Rose Way.
Before leaving, talk to Frogfucius again. You can hand over the Cricket Pie you got in Mushroom Kingdom and he'll hand over a Thunder Staff, the first elemental weapon in this hack.
Elemental weapons are pretty nice. A physical with these types of weapons can do tons of damage to enemies weak to that element. If an enemy is resistant/immune though, it won't end well.
The Thunder Staff is for Mallow and boy is it good. It's a weapon with 2 timings. The first is the standard one you always do to make a weapon hit harder. The second is the Shocker animation. Press the button just before the bolt connects to do boosted damage.
If that wasn't good enough, the +40 magic attack it provides to Mallow is great as well.
Two shops here to check out. One is the standard coin using shop with stuff like Tripleshrooms, Elixirs, and Kerocola 1s, the latter of which fulls refills the party's hp and fp.
The other shop is one where you can spend your frog coins. If you want to buy anything, make it the Power Blasts. Costs 2 frog coins each and is basically an Energizer & Crystalline rolled up into one item. Very useful for kicking off a boss fight.
