Super Mario RPG Armageddon is a hack for Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars by darkkefka. Much higher difficulty, rebalanced characters, new spells & equipment, and even new content are just a few of things this hack does.

Since the latest version's patch comes with a rom you must apply said patch to, a link can't be provided. Go and fire up the Google engines to locate it.

Time to go figure out who's bright idea it was to bring a bunch of pogo stick using Shy Guys into town.

The pogo stick using Shy Guys, called Shysters, can appear in groups of 3 or 4. They can either hop on someone for decent damage or toss a fireball at a target for less damage (More so for me because of my strong focus on lots of magic level up bonuses). Easiest way to slay them is Shocker for a one hit kill or Jump to weaken several for Mario to do a follow up physical on to kill them one at a time.

Make sure to sleep at the inn constantly. After every fight would be ideal so you can go all out with your fp each battle.

The important folk to save outside are the toad outside the item shop (Gives you 100 coins after the battle) and the blue toad nearby. The latter is the one who had his wallet stolen by Croco. If you wanted to, you could sell it a shop for lots of coins, but Mario's the good guy and gives it back, netting a Crystalline in return.

Before making it into the palace, Mario hits level 10 and picks up a new skill, Ice Orb. Costs 8 fp, is basically Fire Orb, but ice elemental.

Inside the palace, go raid the vault guard's treasure chests you got once before. They've repopulated with the same rewards as before (healing mushroom, flower, 10 coins).

In the main hallway, help Toad with some Shysters toying with him as he heads towards Peach's room. Upon his arrival there, you get a Fire Ring, an accessory that's just like the Ice Ring, but this time it makes the wearer immune to fire. The man by the bed will offer free healing as well so you don't have to trek back to the inn everytime.

Save up when you feel you're ready and head to the throne room. Shysters aplenty here, but the real target is a giant goddamned knife in the back called Mack. No surprise, they want to evict us due to crashing their party.

Mack comes to the fight with four Shysters. You'll want Mario to kick off the fight by tossing that Electric Bomb you got from Croco to wipe out the Shysters and do a ton of damage to Mack. He doesn't like lightning. Guess who gets to do the heavy lifting for this fight once again?

Of course, Mack won't make it easy. His physical hurts, but is by no means a one hit kill, even to Mallow. He also uses a single target fire attack. Decent damage, but weaker than the physical.

The real danger starts after Mack decides to fully heal himself. He starts to use a physical attack called Sword Rain. This hits 5 times on random targets for ~30+ damage a hit. Mallow is likely going down if he's hit by 3 or more of these hits. Mario could go down too, but he'd need to be hit by all 5 hits for that to happen. Just get healed up and continue the assault until he falls.

Rewards are once again good with a Flower Tab as the item granted.

After the battle, Mario claims a big blue star. What purpose these serve is not quite clear yet, but what is certain is that the chancellor doesn't have to cower all scared in a corner anymore.

Once everything calms down, Mallow suggests going to see his grandpa in Tadpole Pond for some advice on what to do next.

Of course, the question remains...just who was Mack working for? Could it be the Smithy Gang that giant sword at Bowser's Keep mentioned? Possibly. Then again, it wouldn't be unreasonable to think Bowser would be capable of this too.

Off to visit Mallow's grandpa next time!
