Super Mario RPG Armageddon is a hack for Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars by darkkefka. Much higher difficulty, rebalanced characters, new spells & equipment, and even new content are just a few of things this hack does.

Since the latest version's patch comes with a rom you must apply said patch to, a link can't be provided. Go and fire up the Google engines to locate it.

Time to pass through Mushroom Way, hopefully without that so called Smithy Gang causing any problems.

Fighting enemies is now a thing you should do to build up levels. The enemies around here aren't anything facestomp worthy (yet).

Little Goombas have a few attacks which do ~4-6 damage if you don't block it, but die in one good timed physical.

Sky Troopas are no different, but have enough defense that a level 1 Mario won't be able to one shot it with a timed physical.

Spikeys aren't much different either for that matter, but I don't think they'll give a damn if Mario decides he wants to use Jump against them. They ARE spiky little critters after all...

On the first screen of this area, there are two chests. Both have small coins each time you jump into them. Small coins are worth 1 coin and both chests can be hit ~5 times before running out of coin giving power.

Toad's here too, but guarded by a huge pack of Little Goombas. If you have the fp to fire off a Jump, now would be the time to do so. After the battle, Toad gives you a Flower jar, an item that boosts your max fp by 3 when used.

You'll also likely be gaining a level too. You get your standard stat boosts, maybe a new skill too, but most importantly, you get to choose a stat that gets an extra bonus. You can either a boost to physical attack (but not defense just yet), hp, or magic attack & magic defense.

On the second screen, evict the Little Goomba from the flower that's spinning. Hop on it, then press jump to have Mario hop in the direction he's facing.

If you jump west, there's a chest that throws you into battle with an evil little chest called Chester. I apparently ticked him off because he decided to drop a goddamn meteor on Mario that instantly killed him. What a way to get a game over, heh.

Thankfully, a game over doesn't mean you need to reload your save. You'll appear at the last save point you checked in at. Any exp you gained is retained, but everything else is lost, meaning you'll need to refind/rekill/recollect whatever again.

On that spinning flower, jump east. Toad is being harassed by a Sky Troopa. Jump in to it to find they brought a buddy, a Tub-o-Troopa. They hit hard, to the tune of 30+ damage if you don't block the attack.

On the plus side, Toad hands over an Ice Ring upon his rescue. It's an accessory that boosts magic defense by 10 and makes the wearer immune to ice.

Chest just before the second screen exit has a mushroom that fulls heals all allies' hp to max and refills fp to max as well.

Third screen is where the Spikeys show up. Fight them if you wish, then find the exit. Toad is in trouble once again, but this time it's a Hammer Bro and he's none too happy with Mario. Cue a boss fight!

Hammer Bro has one of two attacks he can use early on, either a strike of his hammer for light damage or tossing it for much more, at least 20+.

After knocking off enough of his hp, he goes into an enrage-esque mode where his attack & defense gets boosted (Indicated by a red aura), then him using Haste. Haste makes him take two actions per turn and also makes the animation for his hammer whack fire off much quicker, meaning you need to be quicker on the draw if you want to block some or all of the damage.

Me? I fail timed blocks so much I get my second game over to this boss.

A quick cut later, I ended up getting Mario to level 5 off of the refight with the Tub-o-Troopa, granting Mario the Fire Orb skill. Just imagine if Mario picked up a fire flower upgrade, but with you pressing the Y button for the duration of the skill for increased damage, and you'll get the idea behind this skill. Costs 5 fp.

Hammer Bro got mauled thanks to the Fire Orb's flames. You get a huge chunk of exp, likely enough to boost you up a level at least, and an Energizer (Boosts attack & magic attack for all allies in battle).

After the battle, Toad hurries on to Mushroom Kingdom, but Mario can pick up the Hammer his adversary dropped. Equip it as it's a sizable boost in power.

Back to Mario's Pad to save up before going into the Mushroom Kingdom to talk to the chancellor.
