Time to beat the big headed freak, now in 3D!

*Strategy:*
This battle is divided into two parts:

*"Old Man" Phase*
You have Smithy with 2000 HP, and Smelter, the face thing on the left with 1500 HP. Both have no weaknesses. Smithy will always open with Sledge, a non-elemental special attack on the whole party that can't be blocked. From there he can use a basic physical attack, Meteor Swarm (non-elemental damage on everyone, stronger than Sledge), and Sledge again, at random.

The Smelter will summon Shypers as adds, which can use physical attacks themselves and Sword Rain (non-elem. special damage, party). It doesn't have any attacks of its own.

What you want to do is buff up your characters, and go down on Smithy ASAP. Just ignore the Smelter - the Shypers can be killed easily with physical attacks or AoE magic from Mallow or Geno. Heal up with Peach or items. Once Smithy is down, you go to the next phase.

*Robot Head Phase*
Now you'll have only two targets: Smithy's Head (8000 HP) and his Body (1000 HP). The Body mostly does physical attacks, and will revive when it's down after a few turns. The head will start normal, but will change forms as the fight goes along after a number of turns have passed if the body is alive, changing its attacks and weaknesses. The first head change happens regardless if the body is down or not.

The Tank Head is weak to Lightning. It can shoot bullets as a physical attack, or the Magnum attack that, if not properly blocked, will insta-kill one of your characters.

The Wizard Head resists ALL elements but Jump, but has weak Defense. It can use a very large number of special attacks in the game, and hits your party the hardest.

The Casket Head is weak to Ice, immune to Jump, resists Fire and Lightning, and has high Defense. It can use the move Shredder to cancel your buffs.

The Treasure Box Head is weak to Fire, and resists Lightning. It can use moves that causes status effects on your whole party: poison, sleep, mute and fear.

All forms are immune to status effects.

The tactic here is to immediately get rid of the body. The first head change is inevitable, but subsequent ones will only happen if the body stays alive for several turns, so focus fire on the head or do AoE damage on both with specials. The first form will almost always be the Tank, which is also the only one that can do mortal blows with Magnum. You want to avoid the Wizard Head as much as possible, it can do a lot of damage - if it changes to that, stick to physical attacks and leave the body alive so it can hopefully change to another head. If Casket Head uses Shredder, don't forget to reapply buffs. Treasure Box Head only uses status, so either use Peach's Group Hug to heal or items.

The 8000 HP is shared by all forms, so just keep pilling on the damage to win.

*My Setup*
Mario, Mallow and Geno are good enough to beat Smithy at max level and the best equipment possible (couldn't be bothered to get the Super Suit). With Peach, you can win with as low as Lv20, or even lower. Attack Scarf and Jinx Belt protects against Mortal Blows, which is useful against the Tank Head - Safety Ring does too, but I forgot. No big deal, you can still block them with a timed hit.
Best defensive armor you can buy from Croco in Bowser's Keep to reduce damage (no need for Lazy Shell), and the best weapons for the main game for everyone. I like Mallow over Peach because he can hit Smithy's weaknesses, plus you can use items so her healing is kinda overkill.
