After hearing the rumours of Geno being spotted in the Forest Maze from Gaz, Mario then heads off to the Forest Maze to see if he is there. The Forest Maze is filled with Mushrooms, and a bunch of Wigglers, and while they go to find Geno, they come across Bowyer, a member of the Smithy Gang and the one responsible for the arrows raining down on Rose Town.

As for the rest of the description, I recommend watching the full video before reading past this point of the description

Time to enter the Forest Maze, and we get one of my favourite songs in the game, this song got a music video called Waltz of the Forest by Chris Niosi, who made it on Newgrounds and YouTube. He was also a voice actor in video games and anime, and he was the original voice actor of Byleth from Fire Emblem: Three Houses before he had his voice actor changed in an update. Beware of the Forest's Mushrooms was originally planned to be in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, but it was never included in the final game.
Time to go over the Forest Maze, there are Wigglers in the forest, and you can find Mushrooms, but some turn out to be a new enemy called Amanita. For items, there are six hidden chests, the following items are a Croaka Cola, Frog Coin, a Flower, another Croaka Cola, and a Red Essence, which makes the user invincible for three turns, but rarely it can last for five turns, and one chest is empty, you can enter the stumps to access underground caverns.
Time to list the enemies, first up is the common Wiggler, you can jump on them to get some coins outside of battle, Wiggler can use Sandstorm to inflict fear, and Vigor Up to boost its attack power, Wigglers have a lot of HP and are weak to Mario's Fireball.
Then the mushroom enemy, Amanita is also weak to fire, but they can inflict status conditions, Sporocyst turns its target into a Mushroom, as a Mushroom, you cannot attack, but you do heal every turn, you will want to equip a Trueform Pin to your party members when going through the Forest Maze.
Next is Buzzer, these bee enemies have low HP and are weak to jump and lightning attacks, but they can use Thornet to poison your party members, and they can flee when they are by themselves, it was planned to appear in Mushroom Way, but does not appear in the final game, even in the SNES version.
Then we have Donkey Kong, or so he resembles, but this enemy is called Guerrilla, it has a lot of HP and hit very hard physically, making them the strongest opponents early on, most of its foreign names are arrangements of Donkey Kong's name, it is weak to fire attacks.
The other new enemy is Octolot, not an Octorok, but it kind of looks like one. Octolot uses elemental attacks, Flame Wheel, Lightning Orb, and Flame, and it can use Gunk Ball to inflict mute, it is weak to Mario's Jump, but they do have good Defense.
After going through most of the forest, you can find Geno, and if you follow him, that is the correct path, but there is a path that the Toad citizen in Rose Town tells you which leads to some Flower chests, Mushroom chests, and a Frog Coin, the reward is based on if you took the treasures or not.
After following Geno, we make it to the end, where we find Bowyer, a member of the Smithy Gang who is resonsible for the raining arrows in Rose Town. When Mallow tries to restrain Mario from charging, he makes a reference to Bruce Lee in the SNES version, and they removed it in the remake.
Then after some dialgoue, it is time to take on Bowyer, and we get Geno as an ally for this battle, his name is displayed as "???", even through we already know his name is Geno, or well, the doll is named Geno. Bowyer attacks by firing Aeros, and in this battle, he can disable your controls, Y to prevent special moves, X to prevent items, and A to prevent regular attacks. He has Static Electricity, a lightning attack that affects all party members, and he can use Goodnight to inflict sleep on anyone. Bowyer has 720 HP, you will mostly be using as many moves as you can, and Mallow's HP Rain can come to use to heal anyone low on HP. Geno comes with Geno Beam, where he can charge up enemy and fire it as a beam, Geno is all about offense, and he is the fastest party member.
After dealing enough damage, Bowyer will then disable all of your actions, and this battle introduces Triple Moves, which were not in the original game, Star Riders is the move used by Mario, Mallow, and Geno, and it targets a single opponent, a cutscene plays when using these Triple Moves. After taking down Bowyer, Geno then explains about Star Road, and after that, we pick up the next Star Piece.
Then time to head back to Rose Town, well you don't have to, but if you visit Gaz, he will give you Finger Shot, a weapon for Geno for extra attack power. If you rest in the inn, you can get a cameo appearance, but other than that, we have saved Rose Town from Bowyer, and is time to find the next Star Pieces.
