Super Smash Bros. for Wii U - Dec 13 14 A
Each Smash Bros. game has brought a franchise previously obscure in the western market and made it much more famous. The original Super Smash Bros. did so with Mother. Melee pushed Fire Emblem into the limelight. Brawl breathed new life into Kid Icarus. I wonder what Super Smash Bros. 4 will make popular.
Match #1
Duck Hunt
Luigi's Mansion
Probably not Duck Hunt. It's already pretty hard to use a long-distance character, but it's harder still to try to get KOs out of a 4-player Time match as close-range combatants can get to them first. I also learned in this match that Trick Shot cans explode as soon as they hit a column. That aside, this match had a substantial amount of button lag, which makes everyone look like a chump. So much so that everyone bailed out shortly afterwards.
Match #2
Lucario
Duck Hunt
Hence why the opponents here are totally different. Note that Match #1 had me playing as Duck Hunt the character while Match #2 is on Duck Hunt the stage. Why would they do such a thing? It makes discussion of such things confusing. When I saw the spinning Smash logo on the bottom right corner at about 1:20 remaining on the clock, I thought for sure that this match was going to implode and get me disconnected, but everything went back to normal, thnak goodness. There's a lot less button lag here too, allowing me to, well, react to things.
Match #3
Pac-Man
Big Battlefield
Yes, it looks like stages like Big Battlefield DO show up in For Fun. I was told that the 50 Facts video made mention of this, but as I hadn't yet had the game, it flew over my head, I guess. I thought this was regular Battlefield at first, until I noticed there were more platforms than I had expected. Big Battlefield is still small enough that KOs can happen at a normal rate though. It's not like Palutena's Temple or New Pork City.
Match #4
Bowser Jr.
Skyworld
It's weird to see this stage return when Masahiro Sakurai seems awfully proud of Kid Icarus: Uprising. However, I do like it when this stage comes up, because the hard ceiling above and the super-soft platforms below cause a ton of celing-induced spikes, meaning lots of KOs all around.
Match #5
Little Mac
Orbital Gate Assault
Unfortunately, not the best character to have in a stage like this one. Even I got caught by surprise during the transitions. I'm used to characters with better jumping. The scores at the end are rather amusing too, since some of the players here were not accustomed to this stage. At all.
