I am playing Classic Mode with Byleth, and while he is one of the DLC characters in this game, what I do is I randomize a list to decide who the next character I will use, the playlist will display the fighters in order of how they are displayed on the roster.
Byleth's Classic Mode route is A Heroic Legacy, and all of his opponents on this route are characters from the Fire Emblem series, and all matches are Stamina Battles, where Byleth will always have 100 HP, and if he fights one opponent, that opponent has 100 HP, and if he fights two or more opponents, they have 50 HP. I remember when Byleth's reveal trailer got a ton of dislikes, and those people gave Masahiro Sakurai a very hard time, considering that he is the final character of Fighters Pass 1, where all other characters prior were Third Party Characters, and the fact that people are tired of seeing Fire Emblem getting represented in Smash, and Byleth's inclusion made things even worse. Byleth is not the only character to fight characters from the Fire Emblem series, Lucina's Classic Mode route also has her going up against characters from the Fire Emblem series, and at the time I have not yet recorded Lucina's Classic Mode route, and the playlist is sorted by fighter order, so I am explaining this in case.
Going over Byleth's Classic Mode route, his first round opponent is Marth, who is fought on Hyrule Temple, and back in Super Smash Bros. Melee, there was no Fire Emblem stage, so Temple was kind of their stage, and the Fire Emblem theme is the alternate song for Temple. The fighters are fought in order of release year, so Marth's debut game was Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon and the Blade of Light, which released in 1990. In Round 2, you fight Roy, who made his first appearance in Fire Emblem: The Binding Blade, which released in 2002, Roy technically debuted in Super Smash Bros. Melee, as Binding Blade had not been released at the time Melee came out in Japan, Roy is fought on Castle Siege. Then in Round 3, you fight Path of Radiance Ike and Radiant Dawn Ike, both on Castle Siege, this references Path of Radiance, which released in 2005, both Ikes start with 100 HP. Then in Round 4, you fight Robin, Chrom, and Lucina, who start with 50 HP, and they are fought on Arena Ferox, and they are from Fire Emblem: Awakening, which released in 2013. In Round 5, you fight two Corrins, male Corrin is in his white costume, and female Corrin is in her black costume, which references Fire Emblem: Fates, which released in 2015, and Corrin was included in Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U before Fates was even released outside of Japan, they are fought on Coliseum.
In Round 6, you fight three Byleths, two males and one female, they represent the house leaders from Fire Emblem: Three Houses, which released in 2019, the red Byleth uses her down special, the blue Byleth uses his side special, and the yellow Byleth uses his down special, which references the signature weapons of the house leaders, they are fought on Garreg Mach Monastery, and they have 50 HP each, which is the same that can be downloaded along with Byleth. Even if you play as Byleth with one of the alternate costumes representing the house leaders, the opponents will still be in that alternate costume.
Then it is the Bonus Stage, and after that, you fight both Master Hand and Crazy Hand, and you have Marth, Roy, Ike, Robin, and Corrin as allies for that fight, and they have 30 HP.
After completing Classic Mode with Byleth, the credits song is Paths That Will Never Cross, which is one of my favourite songs from Three Houses, and you earn the Fighter Spirit for Male Byleth, and you can get the Fighter Spirit for Female Byleth through the shop. Another bit of trivia, in Japanese, this route is called Genealogy of the Emblem, which is a combination of Genealogy of the Holy War and Mystery of the Emblem, two Fire Emblem games for the Super Famicom.
