This is from the original version of Sonic the Hedgehog 2 for the Sega Mega Drive. This glitch can be done in the first acts of all stages.

When Sonic has all seven chaos emeralds and more than 50 rings, you can hit the jump button and he transforms into Super Sonic. At the end of the level when you pass the signpost, if you have 50 or more rings, turn back and jump and then Sonic tries to transform again and fails.

When this happens you are stuck, timer stops, only the Start button works.

The last thing you can do is to hit the RESET button.
