The first battle... notice the 2 most common double battle Pokemon there? Yep.
The second battle... I got lucky with the no hit on Muddy Water... but again, that's why I'd use surf over it, especially if I have a Pokemon that isn't effected by it too much too. That way I'd always hit my opponent.
