Super Sprint Playthrough
1986, NES. Rating: 1.5 out of 4 stars
This unlicensed game through Tengen has some charm to it in a very limited capacity. Like most arcade games, it is designed to be played in short doses. The fundamentals are simple enough: Complete five laps through seven different courses, pick up wrenches along the way to upgrade the car and avoid potential hazards such as tornadoes, oil slicks, puddles and more. After a single playthrough has been completed, more obstacles show up and the game goes from being about racing and skill to something a little more kaizo. The game is rudimentary on the surface and won’t win any awards for ingenuity and the controls are a bit wonky. Getting around corners is more trouble than it perhaps should be, as well. There are other racing games on the NES that are more worth your time.
