Kirby's Adventure Review

NES, 1993. Rating: 3.5 out of 4 stars
A fine late NES classic overall and still, for my money, the strongest game in the Kirby franchise to date. Nintendo took the fundamentals from the original Kirby’s Dream Land for Game Boy and really supercharged the game’s look and aesthetic in many ways. The copy ability is of course the main addition and with so many different abilities to work with, it’s easy to lose yourself trying out all these different abilities and seeing how they work. Along with the dozens of levels, there are many minigames to play in between for extra lives. The soundtrack is cute, but very catchy, and the visuals are among the best the NES produced. Each world feels very alive and vibrant in a way that would have one thinking this was on a more advanced system. Like all Kirby games, it rarely goes above medium in terms of difficulty. Some of the secrets are challenging, but the boss fights are pretty tame. It also has problems with lag in some spots, which can cause frustration. Overall, though, it still remains one of the best NES games and is arguably the best of the post-SNES release titles.
