Super Street Fighter II: The New Challengers (mobile phone) playthrough
It may have bonus stages, but there's no more shortcuts! You want that hadouken? You gotta quarter-circle for it, son.
No commentary for this one, either, but there is a bit to talk about.
* The game runs a lot faster and smoother, thanks to being rebuilt from the ground up. It still takes 40 seconds for one match to end and the other to begin, mind you.
* Unfortunately, there's no control configuration, and the input used is catastrophically bad. It's the exact same setup as the arcade games... only spread across a numpad. The top row is jumps, the next is walking and crouching, then your three punches, and lastly the three kicks.
It's an attempt at accuracy, I'll give it that, but wow, is it not user-friendly. It also means I have to attempt the command inputs... and with a charge-based character, that's a laugh and a half.
* I play as Dee Jay because he's a bad mamba-jamma, and since he's the only New Challenger whose moveset I'm even slightly familiar with.
That said, I can't pull off a single special move on command, and they seem to have neutered his slide kick. Expect a lot of incompetence.
* There are seven difficulty settings. I play on the easiest because I'm a terrible person. The AI does seem a bit more intelligent than in the last game... though it's hard to judge when I don't lose a single match. GO ME~
* There's another game mode: Timed Fight. It just seems to be a match against a chosen CPU opponent with a clock in the HUD. Didn't bother to explore it.
* There are three bonus stages: car smashing (at 7:18), brick breaking (13:07) and barrel busting (18:51). They seem to have survived the transition pretty well, surprisingly.
* There's no palette swaps, so the fight against CPU Dee Jay just has a tiny "2P" insignia floating over him. It's hilariously lazy.
* You don't get an ending on the easiest setting. I attempt to express my disgust through the high score entry. It took more effort than it was worth.
* I probably hit the magnify button at inappropriate times because playing this game on numpad is freakin' awful.
* THE PROBLEM IS YOU DON'T HAVE ANY RHYTHM!
