Original Text: I'm home sick today, so not going to do the big one that I had planned. Instead I'm going to stay on my @ErikJLarsen kick and talk about one of my favorite villains in the Savage Dragon books: Powerhouse
Powerhouse was the main enforcer for the Vicious Circle, a group of super criminals based in Chicago. He's less powerful than some of the other #SupermanAnalogues I've discussed so far, not able to hold his own against Mighty Man unless augmented, but still a flying brick
What I really love about the character is that he's so dang weird, what with the body of a Superman but the head of a chicken, but also has the personality of a Superman. He might be a criminal, but he's intensely honorable. His mission is to protect his fellow persecuted freaks.
And yeah, that chicken head is his real head. It, along with his powers, are due to him being a distant descendant of the Egyptian god, Ra. So weirdly, he would have fit the Sunday slot for last week's theme too.
Powerhouse is the type of wonderful, strange character that you find in peak comics. Books like Savage Dragon really embraced the surreal world that the medium allows for and so could get away with an honorable mutant bird warrior and have it fit.
Design-wise, the head is the big thing. The cape gives you the sense of his movement. His metal gloves give the sense that he can hit hard. The blocky colors are eye catching and unique, showing the inner conflict in his nature and the people he associates with. Solid character.
