Superman Analogue: Captain Ultra

Original Text: Powerhouse yesterday was a slightly less powerful #SupermanAnalogue as a villain, so let's do an even more extreme example, Captain Ultra.
He was in the category of "impressive but didn't hold a candle (no pun intended) to the big boys at Marvel", he was only about as strong as Spider-Man, plus flight, durability, yadda yadda. On top of that, he had severe pyrophobia, possibly as a nod to Martian Manhunter.
I mean SEVERELY pyrophobia. A lit match takes him out of action. And that's what people remember about him!
But he's one of that roster of kinda jokey d-list characters that pops up from time to time because they're charming. He first popped up at an audition for the Frightful Four (a team we'll never see in a movie, but I love all the same), then bounced around morally.
I mean, he's a joke. He began as a rip on the Superman archetype and has continued to be a d-lister. His outfit is garish and impractical, as people often criticized DC characters of, and his broad powers have a comical weakness like classic DC characters.
But that's why we love him. He's a tongue firmly in cheek joke on Superman and the like, defiantly asking us to laugh WITH him.
