Original Text: I'm going to stick with "Captains" since they often make for good #SupermanAnalogues and I want to do a palate cleanser before going down not one but two rabbit holes, so let's talk about Captain Caveman
Captain Caveman was a Hanna Barbera property from back in the day. He had his own series called "Captain Caveman and the Teen Angels", where the Captain was a thawed out prehistoric superhero solving crimes in a cool Winnebago
And I mean a cool Winnebago! It had a cave on top that he lived in that I thought was so awesome back in the day.
However, my main touchstone for the character was as a featurette on Flintstone Kids, a cartoon about Fred and the gang as kids (why did I watch that?) where he had adventures with his son.
He also cameod in the Laff-A-Lympics, so he kept his brand strong that way.
Captain Caveman had the classic schtick of super strength and flight, but also had the gimmick of infinite tricks that could pop out of his club. Between that and his comedic oafishness, he made for a solid gag character.
And who could forget his battle cry?
here are a lot of cartoon superheroes that adopted a Superman-like powerset as a shorthand to establish what kind of hero they were. I'm sure I'll go through quite a few, but I'm glad to get to Captain Caveman early. Who wouldn't love a dopey hirsute Adonis?
