Original Text: This one might sound repetitive, but I mentioned when I discussed the #Superwoman of the Crime Syndicate that there was another #SupermanAnalogue on the team, so let's talk about Ultraman!
Ultraman was the direct counterpart to Superman from Earth 3's Evil version of the Justice League, the Crime Syndicate. He was empowered by his world's version of kryptonite, even gaining new powers (such as the power to see across dimensions revealing the JLA to him)
As with Superwoman, he died in the Crisis, getting a dramatic send off to establish the stakes. Though they may have been evil, they were a perfect match for the JLA and they couldn't stop the doom that overtook their world. Really great way to open the series.
Grant Morrison CLEARLY loved them, so he brought them back several times. First, in the very meta final chapter of his Animal Man run.
He then made a more formal reintroduction of the group in his one shot, Earth 2. This is where the character actually becomes more of a counterpart to Lois Lane, being a human who temporarily gains super powers. Being evil, he kept juicing himself despite the cost, hoarding power
That one shot was adapted into an animated movie and I LOVE this version. He's such a thug. He has this Brooklyn accent, really coming off like a super powered version of a Goodfellas character.
The Crime Syndicate has been prominently featured in the New 52 and beyond (again, evil alternate reality version of the world's greatest hero is really compelling).
It's nice to know that somewhere out there, the most powerful being in the world is an asshole and he's got his eyes on you.
