Table Top Runways. Are they Dangerous? Explained by Pilot Blog
#PilotBlog #Runway #Tabletop
Hello my friends! I know that many of you would like to know airline pilot's opinion about the recent crash of Air India Express Boeing 737 in Kozhikode international airport (India). However I will not give my opinion on that because of two resons: 1) We have a lack of information, 2) It is immoral in respect to those relatives who lost their loved ones. I may just open you some light on the table top runways, if it is dabgerous to fly on that king of runways. I tried to explain as much as possible. In gereral table top runways are not the worst case that you may have. For example I used to fly in Indonesia to remote areas and some of the runways there finish with high terrain of even jungles. Of course the normal runways are more safe in case of runway excursion since they have clearways and stopways, but the table top runways are also safe to operate. Pilots just need to prepare for landing and take off. They need to calculate the take off and landing distance, plus consider the weather information, runway condition (wet runway, dry runway, contaminated runway). If you do everything according to the book and normal procedures, you'll be safe for sure!
Thank you for watching my Pilot Blog!
