Tales of Legendia - Boss 25: Maurits [Senel Solo/Hard Mode/NI]
The main quest comes to an end with 2 very technical fights, technical in the sense that there's little to no time of wailing away without strategic decisions. Considering the limitations of the battle system, these battles (which include the Gigant, Terrors, Vaclav, Walter, etc.) end up being extremely fun.
The first of these fights, Maurits is very similar to Walter, but has a little less Penetrate to worry about. The same mechanics of passing through him early to avoid his badass staff combo still applies, though he's actually harder to safely pass through because his staff hits behind him more so than Walter's attacks do, and he's quicker with it as well. Since there are two fights with him, I used both to show two different ways of getting around him.
Fighting him up close is about the same difficulty as Walter. He's easier to stagger, but his staff combo + Maw of the Sea which is an EXTENSION of that combo is a guarantee guard break unless you use guardian before he starts it. Sometimes he'll use Hand of the Water, which is a flimsy "projectile" I guess... and Raging Nerifes is what he recovers with after knockdown during the first phase and uses as a standalone eres in the second. it functions the same as Vaclav's God of War, so it gives you time to distance yourself from him.
Along with that he has a number of spells, most of which can be dodged accordingly, and his first form is probably the harder of the two since he mainly casts these spells in phase two. It's definitely an overall more fair match than Walter, but it's also nothing to scoff at since any mistake up close will be quickly and severely punished.
Oh and did I mention Kim Strauss is a really great VA?
