After the success of 'Ford v Ferrari' introduced a new generation to automotive icon Carroll Shelby, Superformance built this prototype to prepare for a production run of all-electric Cobra roadsters. A Tesla P100D motor pumps out an ungodly 1,500 lb-ft of torque, all available at the rear wheels only with the lightest touch of the gas pedal. But somehow, even with a set of LG batteries, the Cobra EV manages 100 miles of range and still weighs less than the V8 versions.

Superformance plans to add more battery cells in the transmission tunnel for a bump up in range to more like 150-160 miles for customer orders, which open soon on the approximately $200,000 silent sports car. But as HotCars contributor Michael Van Runkle discovers after driving the ICE and EV Cobras back to back, avoiding instantaneous burnouts with so much power available requires serious respect for Carroll Shelby's iconic creation.
