Tapwave Zodiac - System Overview - Mixing Business with Pleasure
I hope you are all healthy and safe wherever you are in the World right now and whatever challenges you are facing.
I was always had an interest in some of the systems that were less successful than the mainstream. I was also interested in gaming on phones and other handheld or portable devices as you'll likely know from my other videos.
The Tapwave Zodiac console was released in 2003 and was aimed at mixing business & pleasure. Essentially a PDA (Personal Digital Assistant) crossed with a gaming system. This was the era when "Convergence" was King. Every device wanted to be the one stop device that brought together all of your media in one place as opposed to having separate single function hardware for each. Seems funny now that Smart Phones essentially do all of this in the one box!
I've been meaning to make this video for a while. I picked my system up in 2005 (I think) more as a curio as a colleague had bought one - mainly to use as a PDA - so I'd tried it before and I quite liked the system. For a while I used it as my portable media player (it took a bit of faffing to convert videos to it but I spent ages converting a whole load of Video CD's - remember them? - and it was cool having a whole movie on an SD Card) and played the odd game on it
I'm slowly but surely getting round to sorting out my collection and intend to make similar videos as system overviews for other systems I have like the Gizmondo, the Game King, the Neo Geo Pocket and many others. If you'd like to see a longer video of the Zodiac or it's games or any of these older systems and the games then just let me know.
I only have a few of the Zodiac games but I'd love to get hold of the few SD Card releases that I'm missing if anyone has any of them!
I will be covering more phone games and N-Gage games shortly too.
Plus I found my old iPhone 3GS in a clear out - it still works and has loads of interesting Trial versions of software no longer on the App Store. It's hard to film it clearly though due to the touch controls.
I'm also sorting my loft and finding all sorts of obscurities, oddities and nice games from my collection so I'll be doing some random vids. Let me know if there is a console or game you'd like to see. Let me know if there are any games or consoles you'd like videos about. Let me know if you like the format (i.e. no voiceover and the addition of short facts). Want End Cards added to point out other similar videos? I'm just trying things really.
As always the video shows the original hardware and is from my own collection.
As always if you enjoy this video let me know.
As always this is uploaded under the Fair Use Policy - no money is being made from this video.
