The Textorcist - Typing Trick or Treat on Sega Dreamcast - played with keyboard
I hope you are all healthy and safe wherever you are in the World right now and whatever challenges you are facing.
Happy Halloween!!!!
I am a huge fan of the Sega Dreamcast and always felt it could have competed on a technical front much longer than it did - Sega discontinuing it for financial reasons in 2001 although games continue to be released long after. So I often support Kickstarters & other Indie game projects for the platform.
This is The Textorcist: The Story of Ray Bibbia for Sega Dreamcast released in 2021 by Italian Developer Morbidware and published by HeadUp Games & GameFairy. Originally on PC & Mac it got a limited port to Dreamcast.
First the BAD NEWS - there are a number of game breaking bugs and locks & freezes.....but now the GOOD NEWS - the Developer is committed to squishing these bugs & issuing replacement disks. Once I get mine I'll do a full video or possibly a review. As you'll see it crashes at the end of this video.
It a cool game. You play an Exorcist & it is like a mix of a bullet hell shoot-em-up (such as any number of games on the Saturn and Dreamcast) and a typing tutor or game (like Typing of the Dead) using the keyboard (or controller) to enter scripture you expunge the evil spirits. You can play on the keyboard using the cursor keys to move and typing in every letter. This is pretty challenging (although may suit touch typists better?). This is how I play it (terribly I might add!) here.
Or you can use the joypad to play where you use the Analogue stick of D-Pad to move and then choose letters using the L & R triggers which feels a bit more like a rhythm type game. I find this MUCH easier (see my other video)
It's a fun game and I'm looking forward to the bug fixed version as I really want to play more of this. Nice artwork & sprits, cool music, great concept & some genuine laughs such as the "scam" email on the Holyvetti computer etc
Also - let me know what you think. Would you prefer the load times and screens to be edited out? I kinda like the "full experience" approach and to let the game or promo video or whatever to speak for itself but let me know feedback. I'm keen to experiment.
I'm also sorting my loft and finding all sorts of obscurities, oddities and nice games from my collection so I'll be doing some random vids. Let me know if there is a console or game you'd like to see. Let me know if there are any games or consoles you'd like videos about. Let me know if you like the format (i.e. no voiceover and the addition of short facts). Want End Cards added to point out other similar videos? I'm just trying things really.
As always game is played on original hardware - no emulation etc This is played via Dreamcast via VGA.
As always if you enjoy this video let me know.
As always this is uploaded under the Fair Use Policy - no money is being made from this video.
