Comments: A new void glide was recently discovered by RockyGaming4725, so big props to them for the void glide seen here! As far as I'm aware, TAS-wise this is now the fastest way to finish the level other than the rocket-boosted void glide that Zero-Master uses in his 3:08 Episode 1 TAS to finish E1M8 in 11 seconds. I don't have a rocket launcher so I can't do that trick here. I've done a 16 second E1M8 TAS using the pinky void glide, but I didn't do any wallrunning in the void in that demo, and perhaps on Nightmare the pinky would move over to where it needs to be quicker... so perhaps a Nightmare TAS with the pinky method could also achieve 14. Honestly I don't know, but I'm very doubtful and would bet that it'd be slower than this method.
Topflex completed a 15.94 tas 12 hours before I made this, which is worth a watch. I also recommend you to watch Dimon12321's 0:21.97 No Monsters TAS, which he did before this void glide was discovered, so it was the previous best method.
14 seconds was my goal so I put only a quite small amount of effort into getting half-decent wallruns in the void. The void glide itself also wasn't great, there was a bit of a bump before getting into position, but that's what brute force found so I worked with it. I don't think 13 seconds is possible, but it's possible I'm very much underestimating the effect that better wallrunning in the void could have.
If you don't know what's going on at all here: you can run in a specific way into a specific corner, and a weird glitch happens, popping the player out of bounds. Out-of-bounds is referred to as the void and the trick to get there is called a void glide. Then, you run around the outer edges of the map until you're north enough in the void. The room you normally get teleported into has a damaging floor effect, and checks to see if the players health is low enough, upon which it ends the level. These effects don't just occur in that room, they also occurs infinitely to the east of that room in the void. So, we run to a certain spot in the void; when we reach it, the game checks to see if our health is low enough (which it is, because I damaged myself with a barrel earlier on); and just like that, the level instantly finishes.
