[Synopsis]

In this video, I configure, run, and test Teknoparrot with various games on my computer. Teknoparrot enables you to run modern arcade games. You may say, modern arcade games? Yes, modern arcade games, and arcades still exist in countries, like Japan. Japan still has a vibrant arcade game industry, this was the country that created some of the first and most successful video games in history, like Galaxian, Galaga, Pac-man, and Donkey Kong from companies, like Namco and Nintendo. Modern arcade cabinets run on operating systems, like Microsoft Windows, or distros of Linux. Using this emulator is different from running other emulators which use ROM(Read Only Memory) files derived from chips. Teknoparrot requires you to associate .elf which are Linux file extensions to run programs, and .exe files which are MS Windows file extensions to run programs.

When you run some games, your anti-virus program will say the .exe and .elf files have viruses. In reality, they aren't malicious files at all. They are encrypted files, and Anti-Virus programs will see that as a malicious file, like a virus or malware. You can clearly demonstrate this by using a programming language to compile a simple program which doesn't contain anything malicious. All you have to do is encrypt the file, and most anti-virus programs will see that as a threat. For ROM files are read only memory files, so they are clean. On the other hand, executable files can have viruses and malware, and often times these files have some sort of encryption. When an antivirus program identifies harmless files as malicious files then we call that a false positive. It happens a lot when you try to turn a .bat file to a .exe file using a program. Just keep that in mind.

Teknoparrot does require a powerful computer, and a powerful graphics card. The hardware requirements are high, so if you try to run this emulator on a I5-2500 with a Geforce GTS 710; you will get bad performance. I tested this emulator on two computers, one was my I7-10700KF with a Geforce RTX 3060 12 GB, and a I7-4790K with a Geforce RTX 3060 12 GB on this video. The I7-4790K was a very powerful processor back in 2014, and when it is coupled with a modern GPU it is still a solid performer as you can see on this video. There are hardware requirements for various emulators, and this emulator requires you to have powerful hardware. Software emulation requires a powerful hardware compared to FPGA hardware emulation.

Teknoparrot isn't retro, but for those who are interested in seeing modern video games. There are a lot of modern arcade games derived from retro arcade games, like Afterburner, Contra, Street Fighter II, Samurai Showdown, Sega Rally, The House of the Dead, and others. These titles may just be a memory, but in countries, like Japan they still make modern arcade cabinets based on these old titles.
