Over the years I have heard many sceptics and atheists argue that testimony is not evidence, and that it is irrational to believe something based on testimony. Yet, testimony plays a major part in how we come to learn things about lots of different topics. In this video I put forward a simple argument based on ideas from David Hume and Thomas Reid about why it is rational to form beliefs based on the testimony of others.
