After a really long time since their last Maximus Cup, Tetris 99 has a new tie-in, and it's another Kirby game. The last Maximus Cup they did was back in April 2022, and it tied-in with Kirby and the Forgotten Land, this one is a tie-in with Kirby's Dream Buffet, which is exclusive to the eShop, it released in August 2022.
I'm surprised that it took this long for a new Tetris 99 Maximus Cup after how many Nintendo games we had in between, for example, in June 2022, we could have had a tie-in with Mario Strikers Battle League, which released around then, we had Xenoblade Chronicles 3 in July 2022, and Splatoon 3 in September 2022, and neither of them received tie-in events, and last month we didn't get a tie-in with Pokémon Scarlet & Violet, there were so many Nintendo games released then, and they didn't get tied in with Tetris 99, and right now we get Kirby's Dream Buffet, which came out months before the tie-in event.
When you score 100 points, you unlock a new theme based on Kirby's Dream Buffet, and I see that some of the songs sound like a medley, an example is the 50 players left where the first song is Gourmet Race, and then it played like a different song, the one with 99 players left is meant to be the main theme for Kirby's Dream Buffet, and the 10 players left is a remix of King Dedede's theme, likely based on the one from Kirby and the Forgotten Land. Only three Maximus Cups we had this year, and two of them were Kirby games, and this is the third eShop exclusive Kirby game to tie in with Tetris 99, the last two were Super Kirby Clash in 2019, and Kirby Fighters 2 in 2021.
