Worldwide Wi-Fi, Items On (10 January 2010)
Background: Gear
Music: Katiusha

So here we have the Items On variant of the Tetris Party Wi-Fi modes, and the last in the series of general illustrations as to what the game has to offer.

If you turn the items on, you get the ability to seek out a group of up to five other players...but I'll have to get back to you one of these days if I ever see a full group like that.

Typically matches have maybe two or three participants total (most seem to be too impatient to wait and see if anybody else will join the group, which is a shame), and this is a pretty lame example of a set of matches with more than that, but I can only work with what matches are made. I did get a whole lot of Tetris in on January 10, but I decided that these two videos were definitely the highlights of the experience and the most interesting to watch.

Well, there was one match where I actually found a good situation in which to use the T-Spin...but that's not really interesting in and of itself and means to me that I screwed up badly enough to need it, which isn't actually a very good thing in the first place.

I'd like to point out and explain what actually happened during the first match at around 2:30, because up until that moment, I was actually having a pretty good round, if I do say so myself. Well, the first problem was where I fumbled with the Z tetrimino and created something of a slightly troublesome situation for myself. Then I looked at my items and hatched what I must have thought at the time to be a wonderfully clever plan of some sort.

The crosshairs item itself is generally used for offensive disruption of the opponent's playing field, but I actually don't seem to get much of a positive use out of it when I try, because I generally just end up sprinkling a lot of extra pieces around the enemy field, but that alone doesn't really create any gaps to cause much trouble for them. You are, however, allowed to target yourself and thereby place little size-one pieces of tetriminos wherever you like, and I figured maybe I could use that to fill in the two little gaps I had created by mistake with that last dropped piece...

Well, I didn't really know what to do with my extra time using the power, so I started dropping a few extras here or there, trying to add artificially to my matrix without needing to place any pieces manually, since of course they'll all just fall into place on the field and couldn't possibly have any sort of negative repercussions, right?

I got carried away and didn't realize that I was actually triggering my other powerups in turn when each one ran out, since of course they were all the same one and the button for placing a block is the same as the one to activate an item, which in turn allowed me to place more blocks. This of course let the active piece slip down irregularly between items, making me wonder what on earth was going on with my current tetrimino before I regained control. It actually wouldn't normally start descending as quickly as it does between items here, but while I was busy shooting free-floating bricks at my own matrix, I was hit with a drop speed increase item's effect without actually noticing, because my current tetrimino was just levitating at the time.

And of course the last problem came when I was obviously unsure what to do now that I had regained control of the normal play functions and can't really say that I'd tried this before and therefore had no clue that the floating blocks would just hang there as long as they did after the J tetrimino started moving again, the placement of which I totally botched anyway because of the drop speed increase while I wasn't paying attention.

So I created an even bigger problem from what was originally going to take maybe just a couple of more drops to fix in the first place. Let that be a lesson to you all...what lesson exactly, I'm not really sure, though.

That should cover all the modes, except for the one requiring the Balance Board, which looks to play exactly like Beginner's Tetris, except controlled by leaning and squatting. This additionally should cover all the background music and backgrounds, which can be mixed and matched to your liking for any mode in the game.

I haven't decided whether or not I should upload more matches like these in the future, but it's always a distinct possibility, but they'll be dated and added to the end of the playlist after all the explanatory videos.
