Tetris two-player link game - Nintendo Game Boy gameplay
Two people who haven't played Tetris for a very long time, playing a 2-player link game for the first time ever.
My brother and I have never played a two-player game of Tetris before. This is recording of the gameplay from both sides as we venture into new territory.
I am playing as Mario on an original DMG-01 Gameboy. My brother is playing as Luigi on a GameBoy Color.
To further compound the testing, one of us us playing with a standard European Tetris cartridge whilst the other is using a Japanese cartridge (not the minuet version). As it happens, the roms on both carts appear to be identical and we encountered no difficulty in setting up the game.
I captured the footage from both GameBoys using two GB Interceptors directly into a single OBS instance.
Also, in the brief test I did beforehand to test the audio recording I was pleasantly surprised to find that the in-game music was in perfect-sync. However, during the actual game recording we discovered that one player's music changes if the stack reaches a certain height, and when the stack drops below the threshold the main theme starts playing again, but out-of-sync with the other player. I contemplated playing audio from only one GameBoy in this video, but instead opted to pan the audio from each console to their respective sides to preserve what both players hear in the game.
Something I found interesting was the selection of tetrominos that were dealt to the players. During the game I noticed that the first couple of blocks were the same for both players. I assumed this was because the seed to generate the random selection for the first two blocks at the start of a game would have been identical for both players, but I expected the selection to differ later in the game as the calls to select a new blocks would happen at different times.
But on reviewing the recorded footage later, I found that the both players were given the same selection of blocks in the same order throughout the game. This is probably by design to make the game seem fair (perhaps so a player can't blame their loss on bad luck). Either the selection of blocks is determined in advance, or the random selection for each new block is made at the time the first player requires it, and remembered for when the next player requires it.

The GB Interceptor is amazing so I recommend you check out Sebastian Staack's channel at @ThereOughtaBe to learn more about it, or visit his website at https://there.oughta.be/a/game-boy-capture-cartridge
