TF2: Matchmaking Explained - Elo, Glicko, MMR & More [March 2018 Update]
637Team Fortress's competitive matchmaking now uses a "proper" Glicko based matchmaking system (sometimes referred to as Elo or MMR). Here's how TF2's new competitive mode works - how you rank up and why you gain/lose as much MMR as you do.
As explained in the video, Elo is a misnomer and Glicko is just as base for what is actually a customised matchmaker specifically built for TF2. And MMR is just one visible number you see with many other numbers working behind the scenes to dictate your gain/loss of rank.
We also discuss the ranks themselves (Executioner, Death Merchant, etc) and how they relate to your MMR and what will enable you to rank up (or down).
