Join me for a Kickstarter Preview as we take a look at everything new in the 7th Citadel and also a full solo playthrough of the introductory scenario 'A New Beginning'. For those experienced with the 7th Continent will be able to spot the differences and for those that aren't, I've included a high level breakdown further below.

"The 7th Citadel will take place in a new unique "Dark Fantasy" world whose gameplay will be significantly enhanced compared to that of The 7th Continent.
In The 7th Citadel, a solo or cooperative "choose-your-own-adventure" exploration board game, you choose a character and begin your adventure on your own or with a team of other explorers. Inspired by the Fighting Fantasy book series, you will discover the extent of this wild new land through a variety of terrain and event cards. In a land fraught with danger and wonders, you have to use every ounce of wit and cunning to survive. Craft tools, weapons, and shelter to ensure your survival.
Like its predecessor, The 7th Citadel features an easy saving system so that you can stop playing at any time and resume your adventure later on, just like in a video game!"
Overall differences between 7th Continent & 7th Citadel:
- New post apocalyptic medieval fantasy universe
- Characters have a personal quest
- You can talk to NPCs (dialogue book)
- Threats are divided into scenarios
- You have a physical place to go back to between scenarios (Your “Citadel”)
- You can build buildings at the Citadel for benefits
- XP is handled on the Destiny page of the Citadel leaflet
- You have a sleeved laminated world map to update/unlock with cards
- Your community has characteristics (influence, defense, knowledge etc.) This is very important in scenarios and also when you face the 'Threat'.
Actions:
- Individual Action Deck / Discard pile (each player has their own deck)
- Movement: On Character card to move to an adjacent terrain card
- No more “lock” icon (you can always draw more than default cost)
- Chain icon (restricts the number of revealed cards you can count towards success
- Compound actions (actions that resolve over several rounds)
- Adding a Skill to hand is now a consequence, not automatic
- No “hand size limit” step, you discard when you have too many in hand / inventory
- New ‘class icons’ to turn into successes / cancel damage /other effects
- New consequences to actions (lose card from Action Deck, regain cards from Discard, etc.)
- Players have life points (and counters to keep track of them)
- Players don’t die when their Action Deck is empty (they perform a Recovery, replenish it and lose 5 life points). Players go unconscious when their health dial reaches 0.
Card types:
- States, items, companions, quests share now the same “bag” icon (sometimes with a lock to prevent from getting rid of it freely)
- Reflex skills (you apply their effect when revealed, not when in hand)
- Inventory now uses a new KEYWORD system to handle how much you can carry and use them during actions
