The BGG Scoring System Explained
1,629How is the BoardGameGeek Top 100 board games list calculated? Where is Catan? Instead, there’s tabletop Euros like Brass Birmingham, or Dungeon Crawler Euros like Gloomhaven. We explain this Geek Rating through a formula called the Bayesian Average, which takes into account dummy votes while analyzing what is the best tabletop game. Regardless of components like dice/cards, player count, or genre, the top 100 list can feature games that seem suspect from Kickstarter or Gamefound backerkit habits. Maybe games like Tainted Grail Kings of Ruin that aren’t released yet, should not be allowed for voting? When did the BGG top 10 list get taken off of the r/boardgames subreddit?
