In Final Fantasy for the NES, there are two black magic spells called TMPR and SABR that are supposed to increase your target's physical damage in combat. In theory, these spells are supposed to work cumulatively to give a powerful stack of buffs to your allies in battle, but in practice, they literally do nothing.

According to the Final Fantasy Explorer's Handbook (aka the instruction manual) the TMPR spell is supposed to have the following effect on one ally: "Weapon strength is increased by 14 points."

But when used in combat, the TMPR spell does actually nothing.

According to the Final Fantasy Explorer's Handbook (aka the instruction manual) the TMPR spell is supposed to have the following effect on the spell caster:
"Makes your weapon sharper magically. Success rate increases by 40% and damages increase by 15%."

But when used in combat, the SABR spell does nothing at all. What's weird is that according to the game's code, this spell would increase the CASTER's weapon damage by 16 and attack percentage by... zero? So yeah it's weird that the instruction manual mentions a 15% damage buff and a 40% attack rate increase, which would be massive.

These two spells were fixed in later versions of Final Fantasy such as the Dawn of Souls remake for the Game Boy Advance, but in the NES version they do nothing.
