Daniel seems like a pretty good character. Amazing melee reach, a wide array of unique projectiles, and good meter building combos, balanced by low speed and so-so supers. His level 2 is good but his level 1 and 3 are just okay. Level 3 is only worthwhile on some stages. Level 1 doesn't seem to have any combos but if you pop them up with your up+◘ or down+▲ you can try to predict their descent and time it right after a dodge. You see me attempt this a few times during this match (and it works once). If they're a button masher, you can mash R2 to throw it out as soon as possible - they'll flip out of the hitstun right away and get hit by it. It seems best to stick with level 1's and occasional level 2's in stock matches. In timed matches, whether or not to use level 3 is up to which stage you're on.

His best meter building combo on the ground that I've found is a simple down+◘ , ◘ , ◘ , ◘. This can be initiated with foward+O but it's not reliable. His projectiles like ▲ and up+O build surprisingly good meter. In group fights it's tough to complete his BnB because it's slow, so it's better to do quick single hits, aerials, and simple ◘◘◘. When large groups are fighting, lay down a flame carpet from above with down+O. Every tick of flames on each enemy is +5 AP and can build nice meter if you catch a lot of people fighting in the carpet.
