The Cruelty of Super Mario Sunshine
Like many, I played quite a bit of Super Mario Sunshine for the Nintendo GameCube back in my childhood, with it leaving many fond memories.
However, in replaying it on the Switch in Super Mario 3D All-Stars … it’s made me really come to terms with what has been an, at times, infuriating experience.
Don’t get me wrong, I still enjoy this game, and it’s still a brilliant overall experience, but especially in comparison to later Super Mario 3D platformers, one can quickly see the lacking bits of quality.
Many micro adjustments are often required to control Mario to get what needs to be done, but micro adjustments are not exactly easy in this one.
While in Super Mario Galaxy it is much easier to control Mario with very tight and responsive movement, Sunshine sports a different, more slippery kind of Mario.
