Points covered in this video:-
The Direction of Bending of Light -
- In going from one medium to another, a ray of light is refracted, i.e. the ray changes its path from the original path or the ray of light bends.
- The direction in which the ray bends can be deduced from Snellβs law of refraction.
- We take the following two cases:
In going from a rarer to a denser medium.
In going from a denser to a rarer medium.
- When light travels from a denser to a rarer medium, it bends away from normal to the interface of two media.
- Thus, in going from water to air, light would bend away from normal.
- Similarly, in going from glass to air, light would again bend away from normal.
- As glass is denser compared to water, therefore, in going from glass to water, the ray would bend away from normal to the interface of glass and water.
