It was a pleasant surprise for the blind chess world that FIDE Vice President Herbert Bastian visited the closing ceremony of the 8th IBCA World Team Championships for the blind. He saw the atmosphere at the event and was impressed. According to Herbert the first right step in FIDE helping blind chess is to start a dialogue and to listen to the requirements of IBCA. The Olympiad in Batumi would be a good place to start.
