The Five Ways to Know if You are a Food Addict, or Just am Emotional Eater!
So here are the five ways to know whether you're a food addict.
These are the criteria of ANY addiction, and they CAN apply to food, esp sugar and junk foods
The first way to know if you're a food addict is cravings and obsessions
Are you focused on particular foods over other foods?
Does something spike your interest?
Do you neglect better foods for favourites?
Is your world getting smaller?
The second way to know is; tolerance
Do you need more to get the same effect?
Do you eat more to try get to that satisfaction - that never seems to happen?
Do you binge even if you wish you could stop? Feel sick?
The third way to know is lack of control
Do you find you simply can not stop at just one or two, despite best efforts?
Do you eat in secret?
The fourth way to know is impairment
Do you find that you are suffering consequences ie diabetes, obesity, high blood pressure
and finally, the fifth way to know is dependence:
When you try to stop, it is too hard - cravings are crazy, you eat more, it gets worse
Withdrawal ie agitation anxiety, insomnia, anger, irritability, foggy, tired
It seems impossible or too daunting to stop
You will steal or do anything to get your food -rather than stop?
Bonus: addiction always tells a lie - denial, delusion
Do you tell yourself it isn’t that bad, even though you know it is
Do you promise yourself you will stop tomorrow
Do you minimize your food or the consequences
Do you hide your food?
Are you ashamed / eat in secret?
