What’s up, everyone! It’s Tim from TimPlaysAGame. Tonight we’re going to be talking about the future of the game Splatoon. As you may know, it was recently announced that the final Splatfest will be taking place on July 23, 2016. Because of this, it seems that Nintendo will be focusing less on Splatoon for Wii U. This has lead people to wonder if there is any future for Splatoon.
First let’s take a look at Splatoon’s past. Splatoon was released on May 28, 2015. Before launch, a series of time-limited multiplayer demos known as Splatoon Global Testfire were used to build anticipation for its upcoming release. Splatoon has sold over 4 million copies worldwide since then and has received praise for being unique and refreshing. As of now, Splatoon has had multiple updates and added downloadable content to enhance the gameplay experience. Splatoon has been considered by many to be Nintendo’s next greatest franchise, and many fans expect more Splatoon games to be published by Nintendo in the future.
Because of this, it would not be a bad assumption to say that we will be getting another Splatoon game eventually. With the Nintendo NX expected to be announced before the end of the year, it is also expected that this new system will need a strong opening game lineup to generate a healthy amount of early sales. In the past Nintendo has relied on its major game series to boost sales of a new system upon its release such as Super Mario, Legend of Zelda, Pikmin, and Pokémon to name a few. Because Splatoon still has a strong amount of popularity and it has boosted sales of the Wii U system, it stands to reason that a new Splatoon game will be made around the launch of the Nintendo NX. Of course this is entirely speculation, but history has shown that Nintendo has gotten better at listening to the demands of its consumers.
Many fans have already voiced their opinion on what features a future Splatoon games should include. Many would like to customize their inkling’s appearance more, such as changing pants or hairstyles. Others would like to see Octolings as playable characters. The more devoted players want voice chat and an in-game guild system as oppose to forming guilds outside of the game through social media sites. Other players would like to have more game modes and the option of regional matchmaking instead of it always being worldwide. I personally would like to see a melee mode where 8 inklings fight in a free-for-all style battle instead of teams of four.
So here is your chance to let your voice be heard. In comments section or on the TimPlaysAGame forum let me know what you want to see in the next Splatoon game. I’m Tim from TimPlaysAGame signing off. Good night!
