What’s up everyone! It’s Tim from TimPlaysAGame. If you do not know yet, Pokémon GO has been out and ready to be downloaded for iOS and Android devices. You can download this app from your mobile device’s app store. It is a free download, but does use micro-transactions to enhance the gameplay experience. You will need either a Google account or Pokémon Trainer Club account to play (though I strongly suggest using the Google account since the Pokemon Trainer Club was not meant to handle high levels of internet traffic).

Because this game uses GPS Location services and my mobile device does not have these, I was able to test this app out but had limited capabilities. The game starts out by letting you design your trainer, and though you have limited options to work with, this is enough to start and more clothing and style options can be purchased later on. You then get to catch one of the three starter Pokemon (Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle). I chose Squirtle. Once you have caught your first Pokemon, you get to name your trainer. This acts like a screen name as your name must be unique from other app users.

At this point you are advised to go to a Pokestop to continue the tutorial. I was not able to do this due to a lack of GPS Location on my device. So instead, I used my two Incense items to lure out and capture some Pokemon. Because I live near the beach, I caught mostly water-type Pokemon (thankfully my favorite type). I was thankful to catch a pretty powerful Tentacool, as well as a Krabby, a Psyduck, a Drowzee, and even a Magikarp which I hope to evolve into a Gyarados.

I did order a new phone that was a newer model, so I will be continuing my Pokemon GO assessment when that arrives next week, but for now this game has completely met my expectations for what this game should be, and I can’t wait to dive deeper into it. If you have a device that is compatible with this app, I strongly suggest downloading and trying it out. If you really enjoy it, you can continue to play and make your Pokemon stronger. For a die-hard Pokemon fan this is a dream come true, and I can see this app only getting better with time.
