The Great Duck Hunt Experiment with Lumpz the Clown
Hey hey, folks! Lumpz the Clown here, and after our last Retroholics podcast, a side discussion caught my attention: does Duck Hunt work on flat screen TVs?
In this largely unaltered video, I push my trusty NES Zapper to the limit to test Duck Hunt's functionaliy on a standard CRT television, a flatscreen CRT and a LCD HD set.
Even further, I up the ante and test the so-called light bulb theory for each set. Does it work? Is there any hope for future HD iterations of Duck Hunt utilizing light technology in the future? Hit Play and get edumacated!
Theory: Duck Hunt utilizes light gun technology which has been programmed with cathode ray televisions in mind. Screen curvature is not a factor in determining functionality, but rather what material the TV is made from.
Were you able to use an LCD set with Duck Hunt successfully? Did you try out a flatscreen CRT, only to have it fail miserably? Does the light bulb test actually work? Let me know in the comments below!
Thanks for watching, and Lumpz the Clown OUT!
Test Units Make/Model
Standard CRT: Mitsubishi CRT Model No. CS-26201
Flatscreen CRT: Samsung Type No. GR25M21
