The grimy, dark, and disturbing RPG world of MÖRK Borg!
I love grimdark fantasy. The Soulsborne games are some of my favorite videogames ever, despite me not even being that good at them (After weeks of trying to finish the opening stage of Ni-Oh I FINALLY finished it after succumbing to asking for help from online players). I love manga like Beserk and the books that inspired it. So it only seems fitting that I'd love a creepy and messed up RPG almost as much.
Originally a kickstarter project, Mork Borg is a visually wild book. There's all sorts of intentionally misaligned typesetting, clashing colors and fonts, writing in weird places... it's all very much a type of organized chaos. I dig it and the vibe they're trying to bring to the table. It certainly carries the feeling a book that calls itself "A Black Metal RPG" would have. Sadly I'm no fan of black metal (bands like Zeke or Motorhead is about as metal as I get, and even then it's firmly within the realms of hardcore or punk) but they do have a suggested soundtrack included if you're into that style of music.
The game rules are very light. This game seems far more focused on the storytelling aspect side of role playing. In this case I feel like it works too. Much like the Souls games, they throw enough teasers and lore at you to set things up and let your imagination start to fill in the gaps.
Once more of us are vaccinated I'd love to try this one out. Sadly I'm still going to have to end up being the DM/GM, just like it always was. Why can't I be the stuttering liar who collects sharp rocks that talks to his teeth for once?
