Flipping through this book brought flashbacks to my youth and recalling Nintendo Power's design- a- video game. Any of you remember that? The winner was a game called "Lockarm," which just so happened to be drawn by a very young J Scott Campbell (who later went on to fame as a comic artist for Gen 13, Danger Girl, and tons of book covers) and I can remember reading and rereading that page over again, thinking about the potential a game like the one he described could hold.
That's what this book is like for me. A ton of possibility. It's fun imagining how all the pieces in here could have fit within the context of a game. There's some real stunning pieces in here, and a lot of interesting bits that I have discovered upon subsequent viewings.
I think the only thing really missing are some UI mockups. Or maybe they're in there and I just missed them. It's possible!
I really dig Udon's art books, but man do I hate the biding! It always feels like it's going to burst any moment I open the book to wide!
