The Hangover Part III - Movie Review
"The Hangover Part III" (2013) directed by Todd Phillips is actually a tiny bit better than it's predecessor which I did not expect. I felt the story of this one made more sense and was more justified as opposed to just re-doing the same thing for the third time in a row.
The Wolf Pack holds an intervention for Alan (Zach Galifianakis). They want to bring him to a center to receive treatment and become a better person. A mob boss kidnaps Doug (Justin Bartha) and forces the Wolf Pack to find and kidnap Chow (Ken Jeong) for him. Alan meets the woman of his dreams Cassie (Melissa McCarthy), and the two of them bond over their shared passion of abusing of their own mothers.
The Hangover 3 does a few things pretty well. It actually bothers to carry over some continuity elements from the previous two films which help justify their and this one's existence more. This is also my new favorite Melissa McCarthy role, I felt her presence and character was an extremely good addition to the film. Alan completes a proper character arc in this and it felt believable and earned.
The comedy continues to be effective and there is some fun little member berries for fans of the original. Where the film fails is the primary villain Marshall (John Goodman). Everything about him is illogical and stupid there would be too many things to point out. Chow is great though and does make up for Marshall's lacking in the antagonist position.
The Hangover Part III is unironically pretty decent considering the baggage and the fact it's the second sequel of a self contained disposable comedy with large shoes to fill.
