The Hardcore Retro God (Review #64 - The Tower of Druaga)
Despite nearing the end of the month - I've once again managed to launch yet another in-depth yet "drop-dead-hilarious" review for the masses! This time, it's on the first in one of BANDAI NAMCO Entertainment's wildly popular franchises (in Japan, at least - despite the anime series that was adapted from it, localized by Funimation Entertainment). Case in point:
Inspired by Sumerian & Babylonian myths...and being the first in the Babylonian Castle Saga, THE TOWER OF DRUAGA was introduced in Japanese arcades back in '84 - and saw various ports on home consoles and computers in just that one territory alone (WHY NOT THE US/EUROPE?!). The plot and gameplay revolved around the destined hero, Gilgamesh (GIL) and his quest to save the fair maiden Ki from the clutches of the titular demonic spectre, DRUAGA, and his endless hordes of cronies by arduously traversing up his 60-floor castle.
There's even an anime based on this franchise, The Tower of Druaga: The Aegis of Uruk / The Sword of Uruk, which was then localized by the immortal Funimation...and one I HIGHLY RECOMMEND SCOPING OUT.
Before I forget, THIS IS A SPECIAL PAX East 2020 REVIEW.
