The Hidden GameCube Startup Sounds - Retrogaming Easter Eggs
1,023The GameCube startup sound is one of the most memorable, nostalgic, and iconic gaming sounds from the 2000s. You can hear it in your head; sometimes involuntarily and out of nowhere. But did you know there are alternate startup sounds you can unlock with a few simple inputs? LIKE AN EASTER EGG OR SOMETHING?
If you hold Z on Controller 1 when you power the GameCube on (or if you hit RESET during the GameCube startup like I did) the normal opening sounds will be replaced by squeaky toy noises and a child laughing at the end.
Side note, I recognize this "baby laugh" stock sound effect from a game called 3D Movie Maker that came with my mom's 1996 Sony VAIO, and I've also heard it in commercials.
But also if you hold the Z button on ALL FOUR CONTROLLERS when you turn the GameCube on, you will hear another alternate sound which reminds me of old samurai films.
