8,928Heres a few things about how mounts use to work in their first forms. Each race got to ride their own racial mount, and had to buy special training to ride those mounts. Like Dwarfs needed to learn Ram riding to ride ram mounts, or Orcs needing wolf riding to ride wolfs. You could then purchase riding of other racial mounts if you managed to get exalted reputation with those races in patch 1.2. The original levels for mounts were level 40 for the 60% mount, and level 60 for the epic mounts, or the 100% speed mounts. When you bought a mount, You could use it as long as you were high enough level. And you used the mount from your bag. Mounts required a 3 second cast time to mount up, and dismounted you if you entered combat or touch water. Also the mounts themselves were expensive. Being able to actually buy the mounts at level if it was your first character and not an alt was pretty rare. The level 40 60% speed mount costed 100g, and the level 60 100% speed mount costed 1000gold. To adjust for inflation, getting 1000 gold in vanilla wow was almost like farming 500k gold in legion. If you were to compare the amount of time and effort it took to get that much gold to today. It was pretty common for people to just, not be able to afford one.
