* As of July 2022, version 1.03 has released which fixes the bonus life bug I mention below. However, there's a bug where if you save everyone in Chapter 2, it says you rescued 5 people instead of 6, and you only get one life bonus instead of 2.

A 1CC of The House of the Dead: Remake's hardest difficulty, "Arcade". All researchers saved, good ending achieved. Used only the pistol (to be arcade authentic). Playing the PS4 version.

In my opinion, this is the weakest game in the House of the Dead series. Poor controls, bad performance, tedious boss battles, inconsistent enemy health...It's quite disappointing, considering that I love the original House of the Dead so much.

Arcade difficulty is hard because of two big flaws: enemies have random health, so sometimes they don't die when you fully shoot off their heads (their weak points); and due to a bug, you don't get any bonus lives in between levels for saving researchers. These issues persist in other difficulties, too, though are much more severe in Arcade and Hard because you lose full lives instead of half lives from damage.

To compensate for this bug, you basically HAVE to save everybody to get the bonus room in the final stage, which gives you four bonus lives. Entering the final chapter with at least 3 lives puts you in good shape as well. At all times, you need to have multiple lives in preparation for the random tanky enemies, who will likely damage you.

You may ask, "Well, why pick the hardest difficulty and not use the special weapons"?" Well, the difficulty was titled "Arcade", and the producers claimed it would emulate the difficulty of the original arcade game. I've been an avid player of the original House of the Dead. You can't fault me for expecting an arcade-authentic experience, as that's what was promised.

I personally disagree with the remake producers' opinion that the original House of the Dead is too hard. The original game awarded you with longer survival with accurate shooting. The arcade cabinet told you to shoot enemies in the heads to kill them faster, and if you listened, you'd discover that it wasn't lying. Enemies died consistently in this fashion, too--no RNG health here.

Arcade difficulty just feels unfairly hard to me, and incomparable to the arcade version's difficulty. Clearly, this aspect of the game wasn't adequately researched. I believe we would've had better results had a good player, like egregiousguy, tested the game and gave feedback before launch.
